Today we learned how to read and work a compass. We started off with learning the different parts of the compass. After learning the parts we learned how to work and read the compass. We did an activity where we had to drop a bean bag at our feet and pick a degree on the compass and take 40 steps in that direction. If we calculated the steps and degrees right we ended up at the exact same spot we started. After that we did an activity that involved setting and reading the compass. We got a piece of paper with 5 different degrees numbers on it and one letter. We started at that letter and set the next labeled degree on the paper. We then walked to where the compass was telling us to walk and wrote the letter that it led us to. At the end we checked an answer sheet to see if we had gone in the right directions. At the end of the day we did a scavenger hunt using a map of the CWU campus. We had 25 questions that could be answered by finding different locations around the campus. Overall the day was fun. It was fun to re-learn how to work the compass.
