Adventure Activities
The adventure activities day at Ellensburg High School was a blast. To start off the talked about the safety rules for the day and participated in some icebreaker activities. From there we split into two groups to perform trust building and teamwork activities. We started with a trust fall with partners. One partner stands in front of the other with their feet together and fall backwards for their partner to catch them. We then took this into a similar activity called Willow in the Wind. One person stands in the middle of the group members who are standing shoulder to shoulder with their hands out in front of them. The person in the middle closes their eyes and falls in any direction and allows the spotters to keep them from falling. After the trust building activities we them went on to two teamwork activities. The first one we had to get out whole team across a zig-zag balance beam. If anyone fell off we had to start all over. The last activity was my favorite. We had to get our entire team of 12 people onto a platform that was 3ft x 3 ft. The challenge was that the only way to get there was by a swinging rope without touching the ground. It was a challenge but it felt great when we were successful in the end. At the end of the day we got to do some rope challenges. We learned how to strap our harnesses on then we got started. There was a rope ladder and the centipede. The centipede is a series of long wood blocks with u-shaped holds in random places. The centipede is hooked into the ceiling and hangs straight down. The purpose is to use the holds to climb up and reach the top. This was a challenging but a very fun activity.
